Mercer Information

Retreats and Special Events

The facilities of the Mercer School of Theology are available to individual or multiple parishes for retreats of all natures – committee work, spiritual reflections, visioning and planning, etc. The retreats may be self-led or guided by one of the School's professionals. Worship and meals/refreshments can be incorporated into the retreat day as well. Contact the Mercer Office for details.

The library houses a collection of 40,000 books and numerous periodicals in religion and related fields. It serves Mercer students and faculty, the clergy and laity of the Diocese, and others who have an interest in the library.

The library now has local-subject headings based both on the areas of lay ministry within the Diocese of Long Island and on the knowledge proficiency areas for various canonical examinations. You will find See the online catalog at www.youseemore.com/gmercer.

  1. HOURS
    When school is in session, the library is open on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays when classes are in session. Those needing to use the library outside of normal hours should contact the librarian well in advance to make special arrangements

  2. LIBRARY REGISTRATION
    Students must register with the library at the beginning of the school year.

  3. BORROWING PRIVILEGES
    Students must be registered before being allowed to take out books. Materials in general circulation may be borrowed for three weeks. All books or materials borrowed from the library must be checked out with the library staff. It is the responsibility of patrons to return materials when they are due. Materials may be renewed by bringing them into the library to be renewed by the library staff or renewed via a telephone conversation with, or email with, the librarian. Material requested by another patron cannot be renewed. Fines are ten cents a day. After material is one month overdue, the librarian will write and telephone the patron until material is returned.

  4. RESERVE BOOKS
    Books in special demand for courses are to be found on the reserve shelves under the name of the instructor. They may be borrowed for one week and are renewable if there is no other request

  5. REFERENCE
    The librarian is on hand to answer reference questions, to instruct in the use of the card catalog or special indexes, and to assist in finding materials. Reference books and periodical materials do not circulate.

  6. AUDIOVISUAL MATERIALS
    The library maintains a collection of videocassettes and DVDs.

  7. AUTOMATION
    The Library computer offers users of the Library access to the Internet and provides word processing capabilities. Assistance in using the computer is available by inquiring at the charge desk.

  8. PHOTOCOPIES
    A photocopier is available for the use of patrons. Supplies for the photocopier are prohibitively expensive. The suggested donation for photocopies is ten cents a page.
