- Safeguarding Our Children" Available Online!
- Several churches in the diocese are participating in the Safeguarding Online internet
training program offered through the Church Pension group and the Mercer School.
Developed by Praesidium®, the national leader in abuse risk management, Safeguarding
Online combines science and technology to deliver up-to-date and useful information
on child abuse prevention.
The Diocese of Long Island has a zero tolerance policy for abuse and requires
all clergy, employees, educators, caregivers, volunteers, parents, guardians, and other
persons in positions of trust with children and young people to participate in training
programs designed to Safeguard God's Children. This online training will serve
as either a supplement to the 3-hour CAP training already available or as an approved
substitute for that training.
Safeguarding Online is Internet-based, so you can access it anytime, from
anywhere. You just logon to a high-speed Internet connection and complete your
courses. The step-by-step courses are fun to watch, easy to understand and take between
30 - 45 minutes to complete. Each course ends with a brief quiz to ensure that
you understand all of this important information. You must successfully complete all
four online courses and each quiz to receive credit for the course. You'll also have a
chance to provide feedback on the course content and usability.
Safeguarding Online is available to all clergy and to those parishes that have
appointed a trained local program administrator
For more information, contact your local parish administrator or
Diane Muscarella, Registrar at The Mercer School of Theology.
- Race Awareness Program (RAP)
- The Episcopal Church requires that persons receive training regarding the church's
teaching on racism. The Canons of the Diocese of Long Island note the following: "All members of the clergy, and all seminarians, postulants, candidates for Holy
Orders, and all employees and lay leadership of the diocese or of parishes, missions,
chapels, or other diocesan units, shall attend training as approved by the Bishop, on
issues of anti-racism in church and pastoral relationships." [Title X. Discipline Cn.4
Sec. III, 2010]
This training may be received through participation in the following highly
interactive workshop. Attendance at BOTH days from 9:30 am - 4:30 pm is necessary
for certification.
