Safeguarding Online!

The Diocese of Long Island and the Mercer School of Theology are pleased to announce Safeguarding Online! Safeguarding Online, the only internet-based training program of its kind, teaches our clergy, employees, wardens, vestries, youth workers, Sunday School, Pre-school and Day School teachers and volunteers how to keep children in our care safe from abuse. Developed by Praesidium, the national leader in abuse risk management and provided by Church Pension Group, Safeguarding Online combines science and technology to deliver the most up-to-date and useful information available.

The Diocese of Long Island has a zero tolerance policy for abuse and requires all clergy, educators, caregivers, volunteers, parents, guardians, and other persons in positions of trust with children and young people to participate in training programs designed to Safeguard God’s Children. This online training will serve as either a supplement to the 3-hour CAP training already available or as an approved substitute for that training.

Safeguarding Online is Internet-based, so you can access it anytime, from anywhere. You just logon to a high-speed Internet connection and complete your courses. The step-by-step courses are fun to watch, easy to understand and take between 30 - 45 minutes to complete. Each course ends with a brief quiz to ensure that you understand all of this important information. You must successfully complete all four online courses and each quiz to receive credit for the course. You’ll also have a chance to provide feedback on the course content and usability.

Safeguarding Online is available to all clergy and to parishes that have appointed a trained local program administrator.

Race Awareness Program (RAP)

The Episcopal Church has mandated that all lay and clergy leaders receive anti-racism training. This highly interactive workshop is the official training of the Episcopal Church. Participants will be led from an awareness of discrimination to an understanding of racism and other forms of oppression on the personal, interpersonal, institutional and systemic levels. This two-day workshop is a requirement for all diocesan/parish clergy and lay employees. Attendance at BOTH days from 9:30am - 4:30pm is necessary for certification.
