WELCOME TO JANE HERBST, OUR NEW LIBRARIAN!
We are pleased to announce the addition of Jane Herbst to the staff of the Mercer School. Jane's career as a certified librarian has included positions in public schools and community libraries on Long Island as well as an instructor at the Palmer School of Library Science at LIU. She also served as Publications Manager at the Institute for Advanced Studies of World Religions, a research library at SUNY Stonybrook. She is the recipient of numerous awards from such groups as the Western Suffolk BOCES, NY State Theatre Educators Assn, and Suffolk County Library Assn.
Jane is a longtime member of St Mary's Church in Lake Ronkonkoma having served on the vestry and as a Christian Education teacher and as a Eucharistic Minister.
Jane actually joined us in early March, just before the "NY Pause" began. At present, while staying home with her husband and two children, Jane has been working remotely on new ideas for library programs and developing reading lists and resources for our library patrons.
A message from Jane: Arrangements are being made for journal articles and ebooks to become available to Mercer Library patrons soon. Once the appropriate permissions have been set, anyone with borrowing privileges at the Mercer Library should be able to download an ebook or to access the journal databases. Anyone who is not presently registered as a Mercer Library patron who would also like to use these privileges should email the Librarian at email@example.com with their name, address, email, and the subject heading "Library Patron Access Request."
We invite you to visit the Mercer website and our Library tab, click on Library Use, and find the list of "Good Reads for Self-Distancing Times" titles to see what she's been up to!
