A message from the Mercer School of TheologyWelcome to the new academic year at Mercer! Although we’re several weeks from our first plenary session on Saturday, September 23, registration is open, and registrants should expect to hear from their course instructors by the end of August. Our Old Testament curriculum has been changed a bit and we have added two new OT instructors to our faculty. Dr. Robert Owens and Dr. Donn Morgan both taught Hebrew Scriptures for many years in Episcopal seminaries, one on the West Coast and one on the East. You can see their biographies under the “Instructors” tab under the School for Ministry drop-down above. This will be an exciting and eventful academic year for us as we encounter new opportunities to advance and enhance theological education for both lay learners and those in formation for ordination. Keep watching our website for further details!
Self-Study Course in Episcopal Church LawWe are excited to announce the Episcopal Church Law Self-Study Course. In a web-based multimedia format, you will be introduced to the structures and laws (canons) which make up the unique “polity” of the Episcopal Church.
In addition, we will consider the intersection of “church law,” as described in the constitutions and canons of the General Convention and the Diocese of Long Island, with the varieties of secular law. This new format allows you to take the course at your own pace on your own schedule. This course is designed for clergy and lay leaders. Registration is required and is now open!
